Out my studio window
This picture seemed like the right choice for today, .MLK Day and Inauguration Day. The eagle is a little blurry. I am feeling a little blurry myself.
Below are three works completed over the weekend — a tabletop object and two works on paper. The theme of the day is small and mighty..
Untitled,/ found wood, stained kindling / 8 × 2 × 1.5 inches
Stack 1, Second Beach / oil on paper/ 20 × 16 inches paper size
Stack 11, Second Beach / oil and graphite on paper / 20 × 16 paper size.
This evening, I attended a poetry reading at Imprints Book Shop in town. Twelve local poets read their poems in the spirit of honoring Martin Luther King and in resistance to the Trump presidency. A receptive community of listeners. I was glad to be there.

I took my rain slicker off the hook next to my cabin door. I put in back in my suitcase. No rain for a week, no rain in the forecast,
Caught the ferry over to Whidbey Island with my friend, Bor. She is staying with me while she babysits her niece’s twins for the week. She is great company after a day working. We took at long walk on the beach and up the bluff for a view — which I later realized —were the same buffs across the water when walking down North Beach. The sun hits them in the late afternoon - lights up the whole horizon line. Beautiful!
I took this picture (below) on our walk. I find hilarious. It’s like my whole residency is summed up in this crazy composition. The edge of the water, rocks on the beach, my blocks of wood laying around like little people. It’s like -here I am - what are you going to do about it?
So I did a silly sketch, Back in the studio tomorrow.
